Job summary

Interstate Waste Services, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for our Danbury, CT facility. The role focuses on operating a Top Pick/Container Lifter and Loader/Excavator to move containers and materials while maintaining safety and efficiency.

Typical hours are Monday through Friday with some Saturdays, from 6am to 3:30pm. Experience in sanitation is preferred and candidates must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the United States.
• Able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
• Minimum 2 years' experience operating Top Pick/Container Lifter/Reacher-Stacker.
• Sanitation industry experience is strongly preferred.
• Outdoor work in variable weather, temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes, and loud noises.

Responsibilities

• Operate Top Pick (Container Lifter) and Loader/Excavator and related machinery.
• Move/stack containers at the transfer station and load to rail cars.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Communicate with drivers, employees and management via radios/CBs.
• Set up and inspect equipment before operation.
• Know machine capabilities and safety limits.
• Follow signals and markings to ensure safe operation.
• Move materials and maintain efficient flow of operations.
• Adhere to OSHA safety standards and PPE requirements.
