Job summary

Parr Lumber Company is seeking a Load Checker to safely and efficiently verify orders, ensure correct labeling, protect materials, and maintain yard cleanliness in a fast-paced lumber yard. The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and teamwork to support Legendary Service through teamwork.

The position reports to the General Manager and collaborates with Load Builders, Receiving Coordinators, Location Supervisors, Customer Service, and Drivers.

Qualifications

• OSHA forklift license (training provided)
• Minimum 1 year of load building experience preferred
• Ability to speak, write, and read English required
• Knowledge of how loads need to be properly labeled, protected, and kept damage free
• Ability to tally correct lineal footage totals on orders
• Ability to read and interpret picking tickets and invoices
• Ability to load and unload materials in a safe manner
• Must be able to operate forklift and other equipment
• Two years of load building/yard experience preferred
• Two years of experience with dimensional lumber, panel products, and other building materials preferred
• Knowledge of receiving and inventory control principles preferred
• Ability to read grades of lumber and other materials preferred
• Acceptable driving record preferred

Responsibilities

• Ensure loads are built safely and accurately by correctly reading pick tickets and invoices
• Help identify damaged material
• Ensure that appropriate paper work is complete & scanned as per company policy
• Maintain yard cleanliness during course of work
• When mistakes are made, follow through with team to make system corrections as needed
• Perform daily safety audit of forklift and promptly report any malfunctioning equipment
• Assist with prevention of material damage
• Identify areas of opportunity for best practices pertaining to handling of products
• Perform other related duties as assigned
