Job description

Job Summary:

The role of the LMS Process Engineer encompasses a wide range of responsibilities related to material storage and movement throughout the manufacturing facility. This includes overseeing the integration of material flow from the receiving dock to the shipping dock. The engineer is tasked with evaluating various aspects of material handling, such as receiving, storage, staging, delivery, repackaging, empty container management, floor space utilization, labor allocation, operating expenses, and the design of an optimal layout for material flow.

While the primary focus is on process development and execution, collaboration is essential with other teams within Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing Plant Operations. This collaborative approach allows for effective coordination and communication across disciplines to ensure smooth material movement and operational efficiency throughout the manufacturing facility.

Specific Responsibilities of this Position:
  • Provide significant input and participation in the entire Plan for Every Part (PFEP) process.
  • Calculate the storage needs for direct materials, including racking, floor space, and dunnage.
  • Determine the requirements for GSC (Global Supply Chain) indirect labor.
  • Design, develop, and procure all material movement and storage equipment, including ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems) and AGV/AMR (Automated Guided Vehicles/Autonomous Mobile Robots) automation.
  • Develop innovative strategies for material storage and movement, and actively seek opportunities for implementation.
  • Integrate the layout of people, manufacturing equipment, and material flow through the creation of a Material Flow Map.
  • Conduct analysis of material flow and congestion to identify areas for improvement.
  • Participate in Plant Launch Wall Reviews, providing updates on status and countermeasures.
  • Collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including CME Execution and Plant Launch Teams.
  • Address lessons learned from Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities and share knowledge with other manufacturing sites.
  • Assist in defining material flow metrics, standardized work processes, and operations playbooks.
Key Qualifications:
  • Experience in designing, procuring, building, installing, and debugging equipment related to material movement and storage.
  • Proficient in managing Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), including program management, OEM timing, addressing open issues, and providing financial forecasts.
  • Previous experience as a Project Lead, with the ability to coordinate resources, provide leadership updates, report status, and track timelines.
  • Possess practical problem-solving skills, with either formal training or experience applying methodologies such as Red X or 7 Diamond.
  • Knowledge and experience with Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEAs), simulation techniques, and controls plans.
  • Exposure to controls engineering, understanding the principles and concepts related to control systems in manufacturing environments.

These qualifications demonstrate the LMS Process Engineer's expertise in equipment design, project management, process optimization, problem-solving, and familiarity with relevant methodologies and tools used in the manufacturing industry.

Education:

BS in Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain Management or Equivalent Experience.

Use of AI Technology:

Unless expressly authorized in the interview/skill set validation instructions, candidates may not use AI tools or other third-party assistance during an interview or assessment to generate or provide substantive answers to interview questions. Candidates should answer organically in their own words, drawing on their own knowledge, skills, and experience. Failure to adhere to these expectations may result in the candidate being removed from consideration.
