Job summary

Passel Farms in Osceola, IA seeks a dedicated transport driver responsible for safe transportation and timely delivery of pigs. You will connect and operate truck/trailer, perform pre/post trip checks, and maintain logs with attention to bio-security and animal welfare.

Ideal candidates hold a CDL, DOT medical card, experience with livestock, and a valid insurable license. This full-time role includes a company vehicle for business use and a monthly cell phone stipend.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Safely connects truck/trailer and delivers pigs to and from specified locations.
  • Loads pigs onto trailer and unloads pigs at scheduled location with care and concern for the welfare and quality of the animal.
  • Properly uses PPE in compliance with job and site protocols.
  • Manages maintenance, service and inspection of truck and trailer.
  • Prioritizes workload in efficient manner.
  • Performs detailed pre/post trip and reports of deficiencies to maintenance and transportation manager.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and bio-secure location to store supplies inside their vehicle such as shoe covers, coveralls, and other items.
  • Documents and maintain accurate mileage sheets, pre-trip inspection, logbooks when applicable, and other paperwork as needed.
  • Records head count and weight using our software for record keeping.
  • Checks routinely and maintains trailer brakes, battery and breakaway device.
  • Adjusts trailers to environmental conditions and can include paneling of trailers or adding chains to tires.
  • Fuels and prepares truck and trailer before heading out to load.
  • Maintains TQA+ certification and DOT requirements.
  • Completes safety training timely.
  • Follows all Animal Welfare policies and practices and informs management of any violations by staff.
  • Follows bio-security measures according to Bio-Security Policy, including visitor access, sanitation, and disease prevention measures.
  • Follows all safety rules and practices and ensures others do the same.
  • Supports, promotes, and adheres to policies, procedures, and values of Passel Farms and industry standards.
  • Regular, punctual and consistent attendance is essential for this position.
  • Other duties as may be assigned to fulfill responsibilities of this position and support team goals.

Requirements
Qualifications:

CDL required and two years' experience preferred. DOT Medical card is required. Experience working with livestock preferred. A qualifying insurable driver’s license must be maintained to drive on behalf of the company. The company provided vehicle is for business purposes only. A personal cell phone is required with a monthly reimbursement stipend set by the company.

There is frequent bending, squatting, stopping and kneeling. Must be able to climb ladder. Occasionally need to lift/pull 50 pounds to 100 pounds of force to move an object with or without the assistance of another person. Must be able to move and work with live animals of various sizes.

Working Environment:

The work is performed outside a hog confinement and in the truck in rural areas. Hours of work will generally be during regular business hours. There will be some variation in work hours due to animal care and health, weather, employee shift schedules, special projects, and other concerns. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts Personal protection equipment may be required in some areas.
