Job summary

Reed Farm is seeking a Livestock Crew member to join our family-owned poultry operation in Western Massachusetts. You will assist in daily care of our poultry (broilers, layers, ducks) and sheep, shell egg production and packing, and maintain housing and production equipment.

Livestock Crew Details

$18-20+/hr (depending on experience and skills), on-the-job training, and increases based on reliability, performance, and skills gained. Overtime over 40hrs, poultry meat and eggs, and lunch provided periodically and during Turkeygeddon (1.5-2 weeks leading up to Thanksgiving).

Job Description

Livestock Crew members assist in daily care of our livestock, which includes poultry (broilers, layers, and ducks) and sheep (Romeldale CVM), shell egg production and packing, and cleaning, sanitization, and maintenance of housing and production equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Humane treatment of livestock
• Handling and removal of deadstock
• Animal husbandry tasks:
  • Watering
  • Feeding
  • Bedding
• Crating livestock for moves and processing
• Egg production: gathering, washing, and packing eggs
• Cleaning and sanitization of equipment (waterers, feeders, etc)
• Observe and report on livestock health and behavior
• Recordkeeping on daily care logs
• Adherence to safety protocols
• Maintain clean, organized work & storage spaces

About Reed Farm

Reed Farm is a family owned and operated, innovative, small-scale pastured (as season allows) poultry farm and on-farm state-inspected poultry processing facility in Western Massachusetts. We raise poultry for wholesale and provide the local farming community with custom poultry processing services. We are progressing towards a USDA Grant of Inspection (2026), after which we will be the sole USDA poultry processing facility in MA.
