Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems is seeking a Unit Secretary to perform clerical tasks, maintain patient data and assist with unit operations. Responsibilities include handling medications and supplies, and coordinating with nursing staff to ensure smooth patient flow.

This role requires self-direction, the ability to work across shifts, including weekends and holidays, and prior experience with office systems and EMR. Completion of medical terminology is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience setting up and maintaining office systems (organizational skills).
• Familiarity with medical insurance, MIS and medical terminology.
• Experience in a health care setting is preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
• Experience using an EMR system.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical tasks to prepare, maintain and process patient and unit data and records.
• Adhere to policies and report issues to the Nurse Manager as needed.
• Handle, transport and access medications and related supplies.
• Coordinate with nursing staff to maintain unit operations.
