Job summary

Hearst Television in California seeks a Weather Presenter/MMJ to deliver accurate weather forecasts with a relatable on-air presence. You will gather stories, develop sources, conduct interviews, and provide live coverage during severe weather while supporting digital platforms.

The role requires strong meteorological knowledge, field reporting skills, and the ability to meet tight deadlines. In-person attendance is required, with bilingual abilities considered a plus.

Qualifications

• Professional or schooling on-air experience handling breaking news and severe weather coverage.
• Professional or college reporting experience
• In-depth knowledge of weather science and forecasting
• Dynamic on-air presence with a conversational weather presentation
• Knowledgeable about how to interpret and translate high-powered radar data
• Experience with common television weather systems
• Write clear, correct, compelling copy that supports images gathered
• Operate mobile transmission devices and use latest technology
• Can work in all weather conditions
• Have unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
• In-person attendance is required
• Bilingual a plus

Responsibilities

• Get our viewers ready with accurate, compelling, and understandable weather forecasts
• Provide urgent, immediate weather information before and during severe weather events
• Deliver content on TV and digital platforms
• Use technology to tell an intriguing weather story
• Be deployed in the field during weather events
• Gather information and summarize facts for broadcast
• Plan and assemble stories for day-of news or special projects
• Work without a photographer to gather and edit video and sound
• Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop exclusive stories
• Develop a network of sources for tips and breakthroughs
• Contribute pictures, video and text updates to mobile platforms
• Handle multiple stories with tight deadlines under pressure
• Maintain high journalistic integrity
