Job summary

Habitat Learn Group seeks Note Takers and Captioners to attend in-person classes in Columbus, Indiana and nearby areas. Start date is March 16, 2026, with a minimum commitment of one academic semester.

Tasks include capturing key points and providing verbatim captions to support students with barriers in class. Ideal candidates have strong typing, writing and editing skills, and can work independently in an academic environment while using their own laptop.

Qualifications

• Completed post secondary education or about to graduate.
• Studies across diverse subjects with strong academic proficiency.
• Typing speed 60+ WPM.
• Comfortable in an academic setting; sensitive to disabilities.
• Own a personal laptop and dependable for assignments.
• Strong writing and editing abilities; quick information processing.
• Able to work independently, meet deadlines and be on time.

Responsibilities

• Note taking: record key information from classes or meetings.
• Captioning: transcribe verbatim what is spoken in class.

Job description

We are currently looking for Note Takers and Captioners for a variety of academic disciplines. Candidates will be expected to attend in person classes at university/colleges in Columbus, Indiana and surrounding regions. The start date of classes will be March 16th, 2026. These service providers help students overcome barriers in class to succeed!

Responsibilities:

• Note taking- recording key information from a meeting. Organized to be used as a reference aid, key points and major topics are utilized as major headings
• Captioning- creating a transcription using Messenger Pigeon, verbatim of what the instructor said.

We are looking for individuals who have

• Completed post secondary education or about to graduate
• Studied and excelled in a variety of subjects. E.g. Math, English, Sciences, Arts, Business, History, Humanities, Social sciences, Business, Natural Sciences, and more!
• Typing speed of 60+ wpm
• Comfortable in an academic environment
• Sensitivity to the needs of people with disabilities.
• Use of own personal laptop
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Ability to analyze and process information quickly
• Able to work independently- being on time, dependable and able to meet deadlines

We require a minimum commitment of one academic semester.

Assignments vary depending on the student's schedules. Assignments typically take place between 8am - 9pm Monday to Saturday.
