Job summary

American University is seekingResident Assistants (RAs) who are undergraduate or graduate students to support Housing & Residence Life. The RA will engage residents, provide guidance, and help connect students to campus resources, while working closely with other staff members.

The position prompts leadership development and community building within the residence hall. The role requires 15 hours per week, a $375 monthly stipend, and live-in status from August through May.

Qualifications

• Required to be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at American University.
• Must maintain minimum credit load (12–17 for undergrad; 9–12 for grad).
• GPA at least 2.5 and living on campus for one semester.
• Attend an information session by December to be considered.

Responsibilities

• Foster community engagement and leadership development on the floor and in the residence hall.
• Plan and implement learning and engagement opportunities for residents.
• Advise residents and refer them to campus resources for academic, personal, and social well-being.
• Complete floor/community outreach activities and award nominations.
• Manage on-call rotation and respond to emergencies during assigned hours.
• Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining room inventories and reporting facilities concerns.
• Support opening/closing duties and desk assistant responsibilities.
• Participate in training sessions and weekly staff meetings.
• Balance RA duties with their academic commitments while maintaining program quality.

Education

Full-time enrollment as undergraduate or graduate student with 12-17 credits (undergrad) / 9-12 credits (grad)

GPA 2.5 or higher (on-campus eligibility)

One semester of living on campus
