Job summary

Perdue Farms is seeking a Live Haul Driver to move live chickens from farms to the processing plant using a tractor trailer. You’ll help ensure safe, humane handling and timely deliveries as part of a responsible team.

This piece-rate position pays $32.25 per hour, with guaranteed minimum wage laws and potential overtime plus a competitive benefits package including medical, 401(k), and more.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2 years’ experience driving tractor-trailers.
• Valid Class A CDL license.

Responsibilities

• Be a vital link in the supply chain transporting live chickens from farms to the processing plant in a tractor trailer.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete DOT forms.
• Drive 1–4 trips per day, including night routes, with 30 minutes to 4 hours driving without a stop.
• Cover loads in winter and ensure loads are secured and fuelled as needed.
• Operate safely following animal welfare, safety, and biosecurity protocols.

Summary

Be a vital link in the supply chain that keeps operations moving. As a Live Haul Driver, you will transport live chickens from poultry farms to the processing plant using a tractor trailer, ensuring deliveries are completed safely, humanely, and within required timeframes. Your attention to animal welfare, safe driving practices, and reliability will directly support farm partners and plant operations. This role is ideal for safety focused drivers who take pride in professional service and play an essential role in the production process.

This position is a piece rate position and is paid $32.25 per hour,guaranteed minimum wage laws apply. Annual bonus (variable depending on performance) as well as overtime may be available.

• Makes a pre-trip and post-trip inspection of truck and trailer and fill out DOT inspection forms at end of each trip.
• Drives to and from farms, making 1 to 4 trips day and night with a driving range of 30 minutes to 4 hours without a stop.
• Carry cover during winter and assist with covering load when temperature is below 30 degrees.
• Cross scale with tractor and trailer before going to farms and when returning fill trucks with fuel before scaling the full load.
• Secure empty modulars before leaving plant and make sure full modulars are secured before returning.

Minimum Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2 years’ experience driving tractor-trailers.
• Class A CDL license.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors

• Work is performed outdoors and in poultry house environments with exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, odors, noise, and uneven or muddy terrain.
• Position requires extended sitting, frequent climbing, bending, and walking on uneven surfaces, with the ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly.
• Must be able to safely operate a commercial vehicle while following all safety, animal welfare, and biosecurity protocols.
