Job summary

WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh seeks a Part-Time Broadcast Operations Technician to join our Engineering team. The role delivers and monitors on-air signals from content acquisition through distribution, supporting in-studio and remote production and reporting to the Assistant Chief Engineer.

Responsibilities include managing file-based workflows, operating studio equipment, and directing live productions while ensuring broadcast quality. A flexible schedule and PA driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong decision-making and troubleshooting under time constraints.
Proficient with computers and learning new software/broadcast tech.
Experience with file-based media workflows and modern broadcast automation is preferred.
Willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Must have valid PA driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

Operate and manage file-based broadcast workflows including media prep, playlist management, and recording schedules.
Control studio and transmission equipment and broadcast automation systems.
Perform floor directing duties and coordinate with anchors and on-air talent.
Monitor quality with waveform monitors and vectorscopes to meet standards.
Identify issues and report to Engineering to minimize disruptions.
Support operations during live broadcasts, events, and remote productions.
