Job summary

WTAE-TV, the Hearst-owned ABC affiliate in Pittsburgh, PA, has an opening for a full-time TV/Multimedia Engineering Technician to maintain the station’s equipment and systems from acquisition to distribution. You will provide technical and IT support for all station efforts and report to the Assistant Chief Engineer.

The role covers ENG/DSNG/CNG gear, video production systems, IT infrastructure, and transmitter sites, with travel to remote sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to plan and document work
• Knowledge of desktop and server operating systems
• Networking support for LAN/WAN devices and systems
• In-depth knowledge of video production/television systems
• Able to work independently and with a team
• Positive attitude with problem-solving orientation
• Flexible to various work shifts and days off as assigned
• Capable of following verbal and written instructions
• Able to sit or stand for long periods
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and access rooftops/confined spaces
• Valid driver’s license; travel to remote transmitter/microwave sites
• Equivalent related work experience will be considered
• SBE/SMPTE/IT certification is a plus
• Equivalent military training from DINFOS will be considered

Responsibilities

• Maintain station equipment and systems from acquisition to distribution
• Provide technical and IT support for all station efforts
• Report to the Assistant Chief Engineer
• Support news-gathering equipment and ENG/DSNG/CNG vehicles
• Support IT systems, infrastructure, and end-user devices
• Manage production equipment including robotic cameras, play-out servers, and lighting
• Maintain transmitter sites and on-air automation systems
