Charles County Government is seeking a dynamic Litter Control Supervisor to plan, direct, coordinate, and supervise litter control crews engaged in litter cleanup of County maintained roads. This role involves overseeing crews of full-time and part-time staff, inmates, and contractors, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with regulations.
Essential Job Functions
- Plan, direct, coordinate, and supervise litter control crews, including full-time and part-time technicians, inmates, and contractors. Ensure supervision of inmates at all times.
- Assign tasks, provide guidance, motivation, and support to crew members. Manage daily tasks, start times, lunch breaks, and shift end responsibilities.
- Act as liaison with State and County agencies to recruit inmate litter crew candidates and coordinate work activities.
- Interview and hire part-time technicians and inmates, ensuring eligibility and safety compliance.
- Assist in preparing paperwork such as applications, contracts, tax forms, and timecards. Submit documents accurately and timely, maintaining precise records.
- Support the Litter Control Manager in hiring full-time technicians, providing job and safety training, and informing crews of policies.
- Conduct performance appraisals for full-time technicians and recommend disciplinary actions as needed.
- Transport inmates to and from job sites, adhering to schedules and policies.
- Maintain inventory of supplies for litter control operations.
- Record data related to tonnage, mileage, and other operational metrics for reporting purposes.
- Assist with other operations such as recycling and landfill activities, including transporting materials and operating equipment.
- Operate vehicles and equipment, performing safety inspections.
- Participate in emergency response plans, responding to debris and weather-related events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; four years of experience operating vehicles and equipment, with at least one year supervisory experience, or equivalent.
Licenses or Certifications: Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
Special Requirements: Subject to random drug and alcohol testing; work on weekends; be available for emergency call-backs; supervise inmates constantly.
