Job summary

Tippecanoe County Public Defender seeks a Litigation Assistant to support attorneys and staff during all phases of the litigation process and assist the Chief Public Defender in managing departmental systems.

Responsibilities include organizing discovery, maintaining case files, preparing, reviewing, and indexing discovery materials, and assisting with payroll and expenses. Some weekend/evening hours may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with prior legal/criminal justice setting experience preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws, standard procedures, rules of evidence, and rules of court.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with co-workers, defendants, attorneys, and the public.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; strong organizational skills.
• Ability to occasionally work weekends and/or evening hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide litigation support services to staff attorneys and departmental personnel throughout all phases of litigation.
• Design and maintain databases tracking statistics, caseloads, and fees; prepare financial reports.
• Assist with electronic discovery, organize client files, and prepare materials for storage.
• Assist Administrative Assistant with payroll, departmental expenses, and vendor claims processing.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
