Job description

Flaherty Sensabaugh Bonasso PLLC is seeking an experienced, highly organized Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys throughout all phases of complex litigation in our Morgantown, WV office. The ideal candidate has strong litigation experience, excellent attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to independently manage competing priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.

This position will play a key role in case management, discovery, trial preparation, document organization, and coordination with attorneys, clients, experts, courts, and outside vendors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive paralegal support throughout the litigation lifecycle, from initial case assessment through discovery, trial, and post-trial matters.
  • Manage case files, deadlines, calendars, and litigation-related documentation.
  • Draft and prepare pleadings, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, notices, correspondence, and other legal documents for attorney review.
  • Coordinate and manage written and electronic discovery, including document collection, review, production, and organization.
  • Assist with deposition preparation, including compiling exhibits, preparing witness materials, and coordinating logistics.
  • Organize and maintain case chronologies, document databases, exhibits, deposition materials, and other case-related records.
  • Conduct factual and legal research and summarize findings for attorneys.
  • Review and analyze records, discovery materials, transcripts, and other case documents to identify relevant facts and issues.
  • Coordinate with clients, witnesses, experts, court personnel, opposing counsel, and third-party vendors as appropriate.
  • Assist attorneys with hearing, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation, including preparation of exhibits, witness files, trial notebooks, demonstratives, and other materials.
  • Monitor court filings, procedural requirements, and case deadlines and proactively communicate upcoming obligations to the legal team.
  • Perform electronic filing with federal and state courts and maintain familiarity with applicable filing procedures and local rules.
  • Support attorneys during hearings and trials as needed.
  • Mentor or provide guidance to junior paralegals and legal support staff when appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to improve case-management processes, organization, and efficiency.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive client and case information.
Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of substantive litigation paralegal experience, with significant responsibility for managing complex matters.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the litigation process, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, hearings, and trial preparation.
  • Strong experience with federal and state court filing systems and procedures.
  • Experience managing large volumes of documents and electronic discovery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters, deadlines, and priorities with limited supervision.
  • Ability to anticipate attorney and case-team needs and take appropriate initiative.
  • Professional judgment and discretion when working with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, ProLaw or other commonly used legal technology, NetDocuments, and e-discovery platforms.
  • Paralegal certificate, bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting complex commercial, business, or other sophisticated litigation matters.
  • Significant trial preparation and trial support experience.
  • Experience with e-discovery platforms and litigation databases.
  • Experience coordinating experts, depositions, subpoenas, and large document productions.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage major components of complex cases.
