Job description

About Lewis & Llewellyn

Lewis & Llewellyn LLP is a leading California litigation boutique recognized for excellence in complex litigation and trial work. The firm represents plaintiffs and defendants in significant civil disputes in state and federal courts throughout the United States.

Lewis & Llewellyn combines the sophistication and determination of a larger firm with the focus, flexibility, and personal engagement of a boutique. We offer a collaborative environment where every team member contributes meaningfully to case strategy, client service, and successful outcomes.

The Position

We are seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal who would love to join our Litigation Support team and has experience in and interest in going to trial. This role is built for someone who is energized by litigation and naturally takes ownership of case logistics and deadlines. You will support sophisticated civil litigation and arbitration matters from pre-suit investigation through discovery, motion practice, depositions, hearings, trial, and post-trial proceedings, with a particular emphasis on trial preparation and case project management.

The position is hybrid, combining work in our San Francisco office with remote work, or potentially fully remote for the right candidate. Remote arrangements are subject to firm approval and the firm’s ability to employ the candidate in the state and locality where the work will be performed. The role requires effective collaboration with Pacific Time-based teams and travel to the San Francisco office, courts, depositions, hearings, arbitrations, war rooms, and trial sites as case needs require.

What We Are Looking For Most
  • Enthusiasm for and experience with trial work.
  • State court trial experience.
  • State and federal filing experience.
  • Experience calendaring and tracking court case deadlines.
  • eDiscovery and productions.
Core Responsibilities
  • Provide in-person trial and arbitration support, including courtroom and war-room assistance, and remain available for travel and extended, evening, or weekend hours when required by case demands.
  • Prepare for and support trials, hearings, arbitrations, and mediations, including witness and exhibit coordination, deposition designations, demonstratives, trial subpoenas, exhibit indexes, binders, presentation databases, and proceeding logistics.
  • Serve as the point person on assigned matters, managing case workflows, task lists, timelines, and deliverables so that nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Assist with filings in California state, federal, appellate, and arbitral forums; research and apply applicable filing, service, appearance, and procedural requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate case calendars.
  • Work with the eDiscovery Specialist throughout the eDiscovery process, including preservation, legal holds, collection, processing, review, analytics, privilege, redaction, production, and quality control.
  • Support depositions by coordinating scheduling, notices, exhibits, transcripts, errata documentation, and in-person support, if needed.
  • Prepare chronologies, timelines, evidentiary summaries, proof analyses, witness files, and key-document collections, and conduct factual, legal, public-record, and docket research.
  • Draft, edit, proofread, cite-check, fact-check, and finalize pleadings, discovery, correspondence, exhibits, subpoenas, and supporting materials.
  • Maintain organized electronic case files, accurate time records, confidentiality, information security, and compliance with firm procedures, client guidelines, and protective orders.
  • Collaborate across the Litigation Support team and contribute to improved procedures, templates, checklists, quality‑control practices, and training resources.
Required Qualifications
  • At least four years of direct, substantive litigation‑paralegal experience, preferably in complex commercial litigation.
  • Demonstrated in‑person trial experience in state court, including pretrial preparation, witness and exhibit coordination, deposition designations, trial databases, and courtroom support, and a genuine enthusiasm for trial work.
  • Proven ability to project‑manage cases and serve as the point person for case teams, with exceptional organization and follow‑through.
  • Experience preparing and submitting filings in state and federal courts, with thorough working knowledge of California and federal filing practices, local rules, civil procedure, and discovery procedures.
  • Strong calendaring experience, including calculating and tracking court and discovery deadlines.
  • Hands‑on eDiscovery experience across the EDRM lifecycle, including collection coordination, database administration, review workflows, privilege, redaction, production, and quality control.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Full compliance with California Business and Professions Code § 6450, including current mandatory continuing legal education and maintenance of supporting compliance records.
  • Exceptional proofreading and written communication skills, with the ability to produce accurate work under pressure.
  • Ability to travel and work additional hours when required by trials, arbitrations, hearings, depositions, filings, or other case demands.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A certificate of completion from an ABA‑approved paralegal education program.
  • Five or more years of complex‑litigation experience and significant trial or arbitration experience in plaintiff‑side and defense‑side matters.
  • Federal court trial experience in addition to state court trial experience.
  • Experience with Logikcull, Relativity, or a comparable review platform.
  • Experience coordinating vendors, supervising review teams, mentoring legal professionals, or developing litigation‑support procedures.
  • Experience with technology‑assisted review, analytics, mobile data, collaboration platforms, structured data, and complex production protocols.
  • Working knowledge of and practical experience with firm‑approved AI‑enabled legal and productivity tools, such as Midpage, Trellis, Perplexity, Copilot, or similar platforms, for legal and factual research, document review and summarization, chronology and deposition preparation, drafting and editing, and citation checking.
Compensation

Pay scale: $57.70 to $79.35 per hour (approximately $112,500 to $154,700 annualized, based on the firm’s full‑time schedule of 37.5 hours per week, or 1,950 hours annually). This range represents the firm’s good‑faith estimate of the base pay it reasonably expects to pay for this position upon hire.

Starting pay within this range will depend on directly relevant experience, trial and eDiscovery capabilities, credentials, work location, internal equity, and other lawful, job‑related considerations.

This is a nonexempt position. The successful candidate must accurately record all time worked and will receive overtime and other wage premiums required by the law applicable to the employee’s work location. The position is also eligible for consideration for an annual discretionary merit bonus under applicable firm policies; bonus eligibility does not guarantee an award.

Lewis & Llewellyn offers eligible employees a competitive, comprehensive benefits package designed to support health, financial security, professional development, and work‑life needs:

  • Medical plan options, prescription‑drug coverage, dental and vision insurance, dependent coverage options, and an Employee Assistance Program.
  • Short‑and long‑term disability insurance; base and voluntary life insurance; and accidental death and dismemberment coverage.
  • 401(k) profit‑sharing retirement plan; health‑care and dependent‑care flexible spending accounts; and health savings account options.
  • Unlimited paid time off, paid holidays, and maternity and paternity leave programs, administered under applicable firm policies.
  • Flexible and remote‑work arrangements, office hoteling, home‑office technology allowances, and a commuter program, subject to position and business needs.
  • Continuing‑education allowances, annual discretionary merit‑bonus eligibility, and an employee‑referral bonus program.
  • Firm retreats, monthly happy hours, and employee acknowledgments.
  • Benefit eligibility, coverage, employee contributions, and other terms are governed by the applicable plan documents and firm policies, which may be amended from time to time.
