Job summary

Jobtailor in Ridgeland, MS seeks a Litigation Paralegal to support attorneys in the Jackson area, handling case files, filings, and discovery.

You will draft documents, maintain electronic and physical files, calendar hearings, coordinate with courts and clients, and work with a team across several states.

Strong MS Office, electronic filing, and paralegal certification are preferred to excel in this role.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent; Secondary education or some college a plus.
  • Minimum 2 year Litigation Paralegal experience or equivalent knowledge of Mississippi mortgage litigation.
  • Knowledge of Alabama, Georgia, and/or Texas litigation proceedings is a plus.
  • Certified Paralegal a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support to attorney(s) and team.
  • Manage a portfolio of files for clients.
  • Draft and edit legal documents and correspondence.
  • Filing pleadings electronically with courts.
  • Coordinate discovery and depositions.
  • Calendar court dates and hearings.
  • Collaborate with paralegals and attorneys across multiple states.

Job description


  • managing all administrative tasks of legal cases

  • managing updates to client systems

  • editing and preparing correspondence and legal documents

  • maintaining electronic files

  • arranging discovery and depositions

  • correspondence with the courts

  • calendaring

  • working with attorneys in the Jackson, Mississippi office

  • collaborating with multiple paralegals and attorneys in a multi-disciplinary team environment across Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Texas

  • preparing and formatting memoranda, correspondence, and other legal credentials

  • independently drafting standard routine pleadings, correspondence, and other documents

  • reading and electronically profiling e-mails

  • filing pleadings electronically with courts and recording documents in the land records

  • maintaining superior public relations with business associates and clients

  • scheduling appointments, meetings, depositions, and mediations for an attorney

  • assisting in scheduling of seminars, industry dinners or luncheons, and other functions as requested

  • working closely with other staff members in a team-familiarized manner

  • working closely with paralegals for maintaining structured and comprehensive file indexes and case files

  • maintaining and organizing case files (electronic files and physical files)

  • proofreading legal documents as required

  • providing support to the Legal Team

  • providing service updates; client status updates

  • following-up on outstanding documents and or services

  • coordinating with title contacts to complete outstanding tasks such as recordings; missing documents

  • assisting with check down of closed, active and hold files including forwarding invoices of foreclosures fees and costs

  • assisting with opening files and applying fee approvals to files, and fee requests

  • managing and organizing production of documents; identifying privileged documents

  • generating reports and following-up on identified outstanding tasks

  • capturing billable time for tasks handled on behalf of the client, and time entry

  • performing other duties and responsibilities as needed


Requirements


  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent; Secondary education or some college a plus

  • Minimum 2 year Litigation Paralegal experience or equivalent knowledge of Mississippi mortgage litigation

  • Knowledge of Alabama, Georgia, and/or Texas litigation proceedings is a plus

  • Certified Paralegal a plus

  • Must have a positive attitude and be a team player

  • Provide legal support to attorney(s) and team

  • Manage a portfolio of files for clients

  • Ability to navigate through state and federal jurisdictional requirements

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to communicate with clerks or Judges in various courts, and defense attorneys

  • Must provide excellent customer service (internally and externally)

  • Must be a self starter and possess good time-management abilities

  • Balance team and individual responsibilities; contribute to building a positive team spirit

  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; Look for ways to improve and promote quality

  • Must possess exceptional organizational skills; have the ability to multi-task and be adaptable to change

  • Ability to proof read and edit

  • High-level proficiency in MS Office suite

  • Proficiency in internet research activities

  • Familiarity with case and document management software

  • Good understanding of policies and procedures of law

  • Ability to transcribe correspondence and reports, legal documents

  • Ability to operate computer, fax machine, scanner, photocopier, typewriter, and telephone

  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
