Responsibilities

  • Prepare and organize pleadings, affidavits, motions, exhibits, and other legal documents.
  • Assist in discovery, including document review and production logs.
  • Perform detailed legal research using WESTLAW.
  • Perform public records searches for litigation matters.
  • Identify and track legal documents and ensure proper execution.
  • Assist attorneys at depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial prep.
  • Maintain client communications under supervision, and ensure timely billing.
  • Paralegals are expected to bill at least 1,450 hours annually.

Job description

Lowndes, a full-service law firm based in Orlando, is seeking an experienced litigation paralegal. Candidates must have experience in complex commercial litigation, including preparing and drafting legal documents like agreements and pleadings. Knowledge of pertinent Florida Rules of Civil Procedure, federal and state court filing requirements, and county and state administrative agencies is essential. The candidate must have demonstrated knowledge in legal and public records research, deposition and motion practice, and strong writing and grammar skills. Candidates should have a professional demeanor, excellent communication and computer skills, and be proactive. Experience with software like Trial Director, Logikcull, Relativity, and similar tools is preferred. Trial experience is also preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • 1. Prepare and organize pleadings, affidavits, resolutions, motions, exhibits, applications, and other legal documents as necessary to suit requirements of cases or projects assigned.
  • 2. Assist in the discovery process, including uploading and culling documents, preparing batches of documents for document review, and preparing document production and privilege logs.
  • 3. Perform detailed legal research with WESTLAW. Assist attorney in Shepherdizing cases as required.
  • 4. Perform public records searches for litigation matters.
  • 5. Identify and track legal documents pertaining to assigned matters or projects, determine requirements of legal process, review for completeness, accuracy and proper execution and track progress through all required phases.
  • 6. Assist attorneys at depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and in preparation for attendance at trial.
  • 7. May maintain ongoing contact with client, under supervision, to communicate information, obtain data, or resolve issues.
  • 8. Paralegals are expected to bill at least 1,450 hours annually.
