Job summary

O’Melveny & Myers LLP in New York is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to support complex matters across the firm's litigation practice. The role emphasizes trial readiness, meticulous document management, and collaboration with attorneys, paralegals, and staff.

Ideal candidates will have 4–12 years of litigation paralegal experience, a ABA-approved paralegal certificate, and proficiency with Relativity, Opus 2, and Adobe.

Qualifications

  • 4–12 years’ experience in traditional litigation paralegal functions.
  • In-person trial support experience is required.
  • Proficient with computerized legal research and document retention databases.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Experience with manipulating pdf files in Adobe.
  • Masters Relativity, Opus 2, AI and other legal tools.
  • Excellent organizational and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with attorneys, paralegals, and business professionals.
  • Experience mentoring junior paralegals and project assistants.
  • Overtime and travel as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • ABA-approved paralegal certificate required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complex documents and assist with case workflow coordination.
  • Assist in all phases of discovery, including fact gathering and analysis of documents.
  • Maintain and organize electronic case files for quick access by team.
  • Coordinate court and agency filings, including motion papers and exhibits.
  • Assist with trial preparation, including notebooks, exhibits, witness schedules.
  • Track project status charts for matters and deliverables.
  • Conduct factual and some legal research to support attorney projects.
  • Assist with document searches using Relativity, Opus 2.
  • Proofread briefs and other legal documents.
  • Communicate with clients, witnesses, and outside parties.
  • Provide guidance to junior paralegals and project assistants.
  • Record time worked daily and manage overtime as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

O’Melveny has an immediate opening for a Litigation Paralegal. This position can be based in any of our US offices. This application is for our New York office.

The salary range in NY for this role is $85,000 - $135,000 and represents the firm’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Prepare complex document assist with case workflow coordination.
  • Assist in all phases of discovery, including fact gathering and analysis of documents, document productions, and preparing for depositions and witness interviews.
  • Maintain and organize electronic case files to ensure case documents are easily and promptly accessible to all team members.
  • Support the coordination of court and agency filings, including assembling motion papers and exhibits, coordinating filings of pleadings and briefs, and ensuring proper service.
  • Assist with trial preparation, including creating trial notebooks, identifying and organizing exhibits, coordinating witness schedules, maintaining trial calendars, and communicating with opposing counsel and courtroom staff.
  • Assist with the coordination, review, and maintenance of project status tracking charts for matters, including any tasks and deliverable requirements.
  • Conduct factual and some legal research to support attorney projects.
  • Assist with document searches, review, and analysis through various platforms, e.g., Relativity, Opus2.
  • Perform complex cite checking.
  • Proofread briefs and other legal documents.
  • Communicate with clients, witnesses, and other outside parties as requested or approved by attorneys.
  • Provides guidance and facilitates work coordination for project assistants.
  • Accurately records time worked on a daily basis.
  • Assist with other department activities as needed and performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Experience
  • 4-12 years’ experience performing traditional litigation paralegal functions.
  • In-person trial support and experience is required.
  • Proficient with computerized legal research and document retention databases for performing fact and legal research and effective management of complex evidence and case files.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite applications including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with manipulating pdf files in Adobe.
  • Masters Relativity, Opus 2, AI, and other legal tools.
  • Must have excellent organizational and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, and business professionals.
  • Experience providing guidance to junior paralegals and project assistants.
  • The ability to work overtime and travel as needed is also required.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • A paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program is required.
