O'Melveny has an immediate opening for a Litigation Paralegal. This position can be based in any of our US offices. This application is for our Austin office.
The salary range in CA for this role is $85,000 - $135,000 and represents the firm’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepare complex document assist with case workflow coordination.
- Assist in all phases of discovery, including fact gathering and analysis of documents, document productions, and preparing for depositions and witness interviews.
- Maintain and organize electronic case files to ensure case documents are easily and promptly accessible to all team members.
- Support the coordination of court and agency filings, including assembling motion papers and exhibits, coordinating filings of pleadings and briefs, and ensuring proper service.
- Assist with trial preparation, including creating trial notebooks, identifying and organizing exhibits, coordinating witness schedules, maintaining trial calendars, and communicating with opposing counsel and courtroom staff.
- Assist with the coordination, review, and maintenance of project status tracking charts for matters, including any tasks and deliverable requirements.
- Conduct factual and some legal research to support attorney projects.
- Assist with document searches, review, and analysis through various platforms, e.g., Relativity, Opus2.
- Perform complex cite checking.
- Proofread briefs and other legal documents.
- Communicate with clients, witnesses, and other outside parties as requested or approved by attorneys.
- Provides guidance and facilitates work coordination for project assistants.
- Accurately records time worked on a daily basis.
- Assist with other department activities as needed and performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Experience
- 4-12 years' experience performing traditional litigation paralegal functions.
- In-person trial support and experience is required.
- Proficient with computerized legal research and document retention databases for performing fact and legal research and effective management of complex evidence and case files.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite applications including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Experience with manipulating pdf files in Adobe.
- Masters Relativity, Opus 2, AI, and other legal tools.
- Must have excellent organizational and written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, and business professionals.
- Experience providing guidance to junior paralegals and project assistants.
- The ability to work overtime and travel as needed is also required.
- A bachelor's degree is preferred.
- A paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program is required.
