Our client, a nationally recognized Am Law 100 law firm, is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join its litigation team in Southern California.
The successful candidate will be a well-rounded litigation professional capable of supporting attorneys throughout the full lifecycle of sophisticated and complex commercial litigation matters. Responsibilities will span discovery and e-discovery, state and federal court filings, case management, subpoena and third-party records retrieval, document management, and trial preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support attorneys throughout all stages of complex litigation matters.
- Prepare, organize, and electronically file pleadings, motions, correspondence, and other legal documents in California state and federal courts.
- Create, organize, maintain, and track electronic and physical case files.
- Monitor litigation calendars, court deadlines, statutes, hearing dates, discovery deadlines, and other critical case dates.
- Manage litigation documents, including document review, proofreading, Bates labeling, organization, and preparation of materials for discovery responses, pleadings, motions, and hearings.
- Conduct factual research and assist with investigations relating to litigation matters.
- Lead subpoena preparation, issuance, tracking, and third-party records retrieval efforts.
- Draft correspondence, memoranda, chronologies, and other materials at the direction of attorneys.
- Assist with e-discovery processes, including collection, review, organization, processing, and production of electronically stored information (ESI).
- Support written and document discovery in state and federal court proceedings.
- Assist with trial preparation, including organizing evidence, preparing exhibits, coordinating witnesses, and maintaining trial materials.
- Attend and provide litigation and trial support as required.
- Accurately record billable time, using clear and appropriate billing descriptions.
- Independently manage multiple matters while effectively prioritizing assignments and meeting competing deadlines.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive client and case information.
- Collaborate effectively with attorneys, clients, litigation support personnel, and other internal teams.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of litigation paralegal experience, with a strong preference for commercial litigation.
- Associate’s degree and/or paralegal certificate required.
- Demonstrated litigation experience with knowledge of state and federal court procedures and filing requirements.
- Experience preparing and electronically filing pleadings and other legal documents in state and federal courts.
- Experience managing discovery, subpoenas, document productions, and complex or high-volume case files.
- Familiarity with e-discovery and electronically stored information (ESI).
- Strong organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and take ownership of assigned matters.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple attorneys, matters, deadlines, and competing priorities in a demanding environment.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and overtime when required by case or trial demands.
This is a hybrid position, with an expected schedule of three days onsite and two days remote. The position may be based in either their Los Angeles or Santa Monica office.
