Job summary

Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP is seeking an entry-level Litigation Docket Specialist in New York to support docketing, calendar updates, and basic electronic filing for federal and state courts. You will liaise with case teams and attorneys to ensure deadlines and filings are tracked accurately.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple requests, and strong written and verbal communication. A bachelor’s degree is required and prior docketing exposure is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 0 to 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the entry level litigation docketing and calendaring process.
  • Ability to communicate basic litigation processes to case team and attorneys.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a highly competitive and demanding environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivated to produce accurate, timely and complete work product.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of various court websites, docket searching and document retrieval databases (e.g., PACER, CasePortal, Bloomberg, Lexis/Nexis).
  • Knowledge of basic filing procedures in federal and state courts.

Responsibilities

  • Review emails and requests received and draft appropriate responses to attorneys and Firm administration.
  • Perform docketing and calendar updates within Firm docketing software.
  • Communicate with case teams on various litigation matters.
  • Assist with basic electronic filing in federal and state jurisdictions.
  • Perform due diligence docket searches and quality checks on docket entries.
  • Escalate complex docketing questions to Senior Docketing Specialist.
  • Communicate with court personnel via phone and email.
  • Confer with outside vendors for retrieval of legal documents and transcripts.
  • Support the litigation support team with administrative tasks related to docketing and case tracking.

Job Summary & Objectives

The Litigation Docket Specialist is responsible for performing entry level litigation-related services for the Firm and possessing basic knowledge of litigation practices. This role helps track case deadlines, update case information, and monitor court filings to ensure important dates are recorded accurately.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Review emails and requests received and draft appropriate responses to attorneys and Firm administration

  • Perform entry level docketing and calendar updates within Firm docketing software

  • Communicate with case teams on various litigation related matters

  • Assist with and train on basic electronic filing in federal and state jurisdictions

  • Perform due diligence litigation docket searches

  • Perform quality checks on docket entries

  • Escalate complex docketing questions or issues to Senior Docketing Specialist

  • Communicate with court personnel via phone and email, as necessary

  • Selectively bill time as authorized by partners

  • Confer with outside vendors for retrieval of legal documents and transcripts

  • Support the litigation support team with administrative and operational tasks as related to docketing and case tracking

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Information

NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000 at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is non-exempt meaning it is overtime pay eligible.

Simpson Thacher will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.
