Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. seeks a Litigation Attorney to join our Staff Counsel team in Henrico, VA in a hybrid role, handling complex insurance defense matters from inception through trial.

Independently manage moderate to high exposure civil cases, coordinate with adjusters and clients, and advance claims from filing through dismissal, settlement or trial. Collaborate with claims professionals and business partners across the organization in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Preferred to have insurance defense trial experience.
• Admitted to the Virginia bar and must be licensed to practice law.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, an acceptable MVR and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Able to work in a team environment with other attorneys, adjusters, claims professionals and support staff.
• Computer literacy, including MS Word, Lexis/Westlaw, and daily management of e-mail and calendar.
• Advocacy: ability to assist, defend or plead for another on moderate and complex cases.
• Negotiation skills: effectively influences claim outcomes.
• Strong communication to translate legal language into lay terms.
• Strong decision making, organization, and investigative skills.

Job description

We are seeking a Litigation Attorney to join our Staff Counsel organization in Henrico, VA. In this hybrid role, you will handle complex insurance defense matters from inception through trial while collaborating with claims and business partners across the organization.

Position Overview: Independently investigates and manages cases of moderate to high exposure and complexity in civil litigation from the inception of the lawsuit until conclusion through dismissal, settlement or trial. Works with adjuster and clients to resolve claims as expeditiously and effectively as possible.

This is a Full Time / Exempt role.

In this role you will:

• Courtroom Skills: Able to demonstrate appropriate courtroom behavior, attire and decorum and is knowledgeable of the rules and regulations that govern proceedings and conduct in courts of law or other legal forums and tribunals. Willingness to stretch into other areas of law such as employment and Professional liability matters. Provides the highest professional service to clients and claims professionals
