Qualifications

• JD with at least ten years of litigation experience.
• Active bar in a US state or DC, in good standing.
• Eligible to practice in DC within 360 days.

GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT, LITIGATION ATTORNEY [100% FULLY REMOTE POSITION]

LITIGATION ATTORNEY DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW

This is an exciting and meaningful opportunity to work in fast-paced litigation in areas of critical national and international importance with a skilled and supportive team passionately dedicated to the cause of high-quality client representation and service of the public good. GAP represents whistleblowers across various industries, including cases in pipeline safety, banking/ financial fraud, food and pharmaceutical safety, animal welfare, aviation safety, immigration and federal workforce good governance in high-profile litigation.

The Litigation Attorney will report to the Litigation Director. ** This position is 100% remote.** The team holds regular on-line meetings for check-ins and assignments. Duties will include: serving as a client liaison; fact investigation and developing the record for retaliation complaints; conducting legal research; taking and defending depositions; conducting direct and cross examinations and all aspects of trial practice; and working with staff across the organization to achieve these and other related litigation and staff attorney tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with and advise whistleblowers from diverse backgrounds regarding their protected disclosures, job retention strategies, and legal strategies.
• Serve as first-line client liaison, meet with potential clients, manage client relationships and communications, and serve as lead counsel in federal court and administrative litigation matters after a one-year probationary period.
• Conduct legal research and investigations, oversee organizing of large volumes of discovery documents, and draft affidavits.
• Coordinate cooperatively with contractor attorneys, external law firms, and contractor services of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and communication styles.
• Prepare for and take witness depositions under the supervision of the Litigation Director and/or other senior litigators, depending on experience and comfort level.
• Conduct court and agency trials and hearings, including voir dire, opening and closing statements, witness examinations, and oral arguments.
• Draft motions, briefs, and other pleadings, and lead a team of document analysts and attorneys to complete full variety of litigation tasks.
• Assist in work planning and staffing discussions.
• Other related attorney job duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Juris Doctor degree with at least ten years of litigation experience, including experience as lead counsel and in jury trials.
• Active member in good standing of the bar of a state or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
• Eligible to obtain a license to practice law in the District of Columbia within 360 days of accepting employment.
• Experience generating quality work product and assignments in accordance with administrative procedural rules, federal and state court rules of procedure, accepted legal practices and ethical canons.
• Work with substantial independent judgment and discretion in furtherance of the program objectives.
• Exceptional writing and communications skills.
• Ability to synthesize complex legal information, and experience overseeing and successfully coordinating projects to meet tight deadlines.
• A team player and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable with advising and instructing clients of diverse backgrounds, ages, races, genders, political beliefs, and professional capabilities.
• Willingness and basic ability to ethically work with AI.
• Knowledge of and adherence to all applicable ethical rules.
• Empathetic and straight-forward approach to client care.

SALARY

$120-$128k annual salary commensurate with experience.
