Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Serve as trusted legal advisor to firm leadership and internal stakeholders.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts and other legal agreements.
• Identify and mitigate legal, regulatory, contractual, and operational risks.
• Manage pre-litigation disputes, claims, demand letters, and litigation matters.
• Coordinate and supervise outside counsel when specialized legal representation is required.
• Develop litigation strategy and monitor active disputes to protect the firm's interests.
• Advise on employment and workplace matters, including policies and compliance.
• Assist with corporate governance, entity management, and business transactions.
• Review and develop company policies, procedures, and legal guidelines.
• Monitor applicable Texas and federal laws and regulatory developments.
• Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda and recommendations for leadership.
• Support negotiations with clients, vendors, contractors, business partners, and third parties.
• Assist with insurance, indemnification, liability, and risk-management matters.
• Maintain organized legal records and oversee deadlines and filings.
• Work proactively with business teams to address legal issues before disputes.

Job Description

Star Law Group, PLLC is seeking a strategic, business-minded In-House Counsel to provide day-to-day legal guidance and support across the organization. The ideal candidate will combine strong legal judgment with practical business sense and the ability to identify, assess, and proactively manage legal and operational risk.

The In-House Counsel will work closely with firm leadership and internal teams on contracts, compliance, disputes, risk management, employment matters, corporate governance, and other legal issues affecting the organization.

The In-House Counsel will serve as the primary internal point of contact for litigation and disputes, including:

• Evaluating threatened and pending claims.
• Working with leadership to determine appropriate litigation strategy.
• Managing relationships with outside litigation counsel.
• Reviewing pleadings, discovery, motions, settlement proposals, and other litigation materials.
• Participating in mediations, settlement negotiations, hearings, and other proceedings as appropriate.
• Monitoring litigation budgets, exposure, deadlines, and potential business impact.
• Providing regular updates to leadership regarding material disputes and legal risks.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
• 5+ years of legal experience preferred.
• Experience in business, commercial, corporate, real estate, employment, or civil litigation matters preferred.
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Sound judgment and the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
• Ability to manage multiple matters independently and prioritize competing deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with executives, attorneys, and non-legal personnel.
