Friel, McCord & Smiley, LLC in Missouri seeks an associate to join our litigation practice and manage civil matters from intake to resolution. You will draft pleadings, conduct research, handle depositions, and advise clients with partner guidance.

Applicants should have a JD from an ABA‑accredited school, Missouri license in good standing, and at least 2 years of litigation experience. Travel to courts across Missouri is required.

Qualifications

• JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Missouri and in good standing.
• 2+ years of litigation experience.
• Strong legal writing and research skills.
• Comfort with courtroom advocacy or a strong desire to develop it.

Responsibilities

• Handle all steps in civil litigation from intake through resolution.
• Draft and argue pleadings, motions, and discovery, and take depositions.
• Assist with workers’ compensation defense matters for electric cooperatives across Missouri.
• Support in condemnation, easement, and other civil property matters.
• Research legal issues and develop case strategy with partners.
• Communicate with clients, claims adjusters, and cooperative managers with status updates.
