Job summary

A California litigation firm that defends government agencies is adding associates, and you'd get to shape your own work arrangement. You'd run your own caseload with plenty of independence, defend public agency clients in state and federal court, and develop case strategy through research.

You can work fully remote, come into the office, or split the difference; in-person hearings arise, and relocation to the Bay Area is considered.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice in California and in good standing.
• 1–7 years of litigation experience preferred.
• Ability to manage own caseload with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Defend public agency clients in state and federal court across a mix of case types.
• Own your caseload day-to-day, collaborating with partners as needed.
• Develop case strategy through legal research and analysis.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests.
• Appear at hearings, depositions, and trials.
• Provide regular updates to clients on case status.

Remote work is on the table, but you'll need to live in the Bay Area or be willing to relocate, since in-person hearings and proceedings come up.

What you'll do:

• Defend public agency clients in state and federal court across a mix of case types.


• Own your caseload day to day, working with partners and other associates as needed.


• Develop case strategy through legal research and analysis.


• Write pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery.


• Appear at hearings, depositions, and trial.


• Give clients regular updates as their cases develop.

What they're looking for:

• 1 to 7 years of practice, ideally in litigation.


• Admitted to practice in California.


• Living in the Bay Area, or open to relocating.


• Confident running cases on your own.


• Trial experience is a plus.


• Base salary of $125,000 to $180,000, depending on experience.


• Hourly bonus for every hour billed above the annual target.
