Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General Liz Murrill, invites applications for an Assistant Attorney General in the Litigation Division in Shreveport, LA. This Career Progression Group may fill as AAG 1-6 depending on experience.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position requires Louisiana licensure, good standing, and travel for state-wide appearances and conferences.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a license to practice law in the State of Louisiana.
  • Must be in good standing with the Louisiana Bar Association.
  • Ability to travel (including overnight travel) mainly for state-wide court appearances, but also for continuing education and conferences as required.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as primary defense counsel in all assigned cases from inception through final appeal.
  • Performs legal research and drafts pleadings, correspondence, or other documents.
  • Identifies and secures the assistance of experts and other necessary witnesses.
  • Communicates timely and effectively with supervisors and clients on all developments in cases.
  • Performs administrative duties including daily/monthly activity reports, case assessments, and travel/expense documentation.
  • Complies with applicable internal policies (IAT with ORM and LSU).
  • Maintains punctual attendance and meets required hours to accomplish tasks.
