Job summary

Saic seeks a Lithium Battery Safety Program Specialist to support Navy RDT&E of lithium battery power storage systems. You will develop safety programs, plan certifications, and conduct engineering analyses and hazard assessments in collaboration with program offices and certifying authorities.

The role involves test planning, logistics, documentation, and travel to test sites to support mishap investigations and environmental safety requirements. Requires a Secret Clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, or related technical discipline; 8+ years’ experience or Master’s +6+ years.
• Ability to obtain/maintain full Secret Clearance; Interim Secret Clearance required to start (sponsoring).
• Ability to facilitate new Lithium Battery designs through Navy approval process.
• Experience in battery safety certification and engineering investigations (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain safety programs for lithium battery systems across sizes and applications.
• Support certification planning, test procedures, and safety evaluations with technical analyses.
• Perform hazard analyses and risk characterization per MIL-STD-882/NAVSEA 5100.12-M.
• Coordinate logistics management for test assets and documentation.
• Attend stakeholder meetings reporting certification status and workload updates.
• Contribute to engineering investigations, including battery dissection and mishap analysis.
• Prepare and present test results and certification plans; write peer-reviewed reports.
