Job description

Brooklyn Public Library Adult Learning Program seeks a full‑time Case Manager to support WIOA HSE participants within the Literacy Zone Welcome Center at the Eastern Parkway Library. This grant‑funded position runs through June302025, with potential renewal. Salary: $42,000–$45,000.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive educational/vocational assessment to develop a plan of service for approximately 100 clients per year.
  • Provide intensive one‑on‑one and/or small‑group services, including counseling and advising participants and families on career, academic, and social service needs, with the goal of linking them to resources to move them out of poverty.
  • Plan and coordinate community events aligned with Literacy Zone targets, aiming to meet or exceed program goals.
  • Identify post‑secondary transition programs and assist foreign‑born participants in navigating the American workforce, post‑secondary education, apprenticeships, and training.
  • Assist with program outreach, recruitment, information sessions, assessments, orientations, and goal setting for enrolled participants.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with key staff and instructors to identify barriers preventing participants from meeting educational needs.
  • Collaborate with and refer participants to community partners for wrap‑around services such as health literacy, financial literacy, computer literacy, transportation, public assistance, and childcare.
  • Facilitate and/or coordinate workshops and information sessions.
  • Attend community partner meetings and bi‑monthly case‑management team meetings.
  • Maintain case notes, documenting client goals and outcomes using the ASISTS database.
  • Monitor participants’ progress and perform frequent follow‑ups.
  • Perform other tasks necessary to achieve service and programmatic goals.
Qualifications
  • Some college education required; Bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred.
  • Relevant experience in adult education (HSE).
  • Strong awareness of barriers facing adult learners integrating into the workforce, technology, and academic environments.
  • Experience counseling individuals and/or facilitating informational sessions.
  • Knowledge of available educational, training, and employment resources, labor market trends, and occupation requirements.
  • Initiative, resourcefulness, tact, courtesy, good judgment, and problem‑solving ability.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Google Drive, Outlook, and Social Media.
  • Willingness to travel to program sites and work alternate Saturdays, evenings, and day shifts.
  • Complete at least 14 hours of professional development per year.
Schedule
  • Mon./Wed./Fri. 9:30am‑5:30pm
  • Tues./Thurs 12:45pm‑8:00pm
  • Two Saturdays per month 10:00am‑4:00pm
  • Travel to various library branches within the Literacy Zone target area.
