Job summary

Winthrop University seeks a Literacy Intervention Team tutor to read with elementary students at local schools and help improve basic reading skills. Earn $11.00 per hour and make a difference in a child’s life through one-on-one and small-group activities.

Open to all majors (education majors preferred). Training provided; schedule based on class commitments, with 5–10 hours per week in the Rock Hill area.

Have a passion for reading? Earn $11.00 per hour reading with children and making a difference! As a Literacy Intervention Team ( LIT ) tutor you will be matched to read with elementary age children at local schools who need help improving their basic reading skills.
This is your chance to make an impact in a child’s life, earn money, and have fun!
The LIT team, organized by Winthrop University’s career center, is a group of Winthrop University students who are mobilized and trained to help children “learn to read”, before they have to “read to learn”. This team is making a big difference in schools such as Ebenezer Avenue Elementary, Oakdale Elementary and India Hook Elementary. All majors accepted (education majors preferred).

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide reading help to children, kindergarten through 5th grade, through fun and interactive activities: one-on-one reading, group reading and guided reading.
Follow directions and guidance from public school staff and teachers.
Attend reading tutor training and monthly meet-ups with supervisor and fellow tutors.
Maintain accurate timesheet.
