Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer to design, operate, automate, and scale Linux-based infrastructure across on‑premises and cloud environments. You will work with engineering, security, and operations to maintain reliability and security of critical systems.

The role requires hands-on Linux administration experience, scripting skills, and familiarity with cloud platforms, automation, and monitoring.

Qualifikationen

• Experience administering Linux systems in enterprise/cloud/HA environments.
• Proficient with major Linux distros (RHEL, Rocky, AlmaLinux, Ubuntu, Debian, SUSE).
• Scripting/automation with Bash or Python.
• Experience with IaC tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
• Networking basics: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, TLS/SSL.
• Experience with monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).
• Familiarity with cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a cross-functional setting.

Aufgaben

• Administer and troubleshoot Linux servers in prod and non-prod.
• Provision, patch, upgrade, and configure systems.
• Monitor performance, capacity, security, and respond to incidents.
• Resolve OS, app, storage, networking, and performance issues.
• Develop automation using Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform.
• Support cloud/virtualized infra (AWS/Azure/GCP, VMware).
• Manage DNS, LDAP/AD, SSH, NTP, logs, and web services.
• Implement hardening, backups, recovery, and access controls.
• Collaborate with security for compliance and risk management.
• Maintain runbooks and system documentation.
• Work with DevOps to improve deployment and observability.
