Job description

We are looking for a hands-onLinux Systems Engineer to maintain and enhance the core physical server infrastructure supporting custom software systems. You’ll be part of a highly technical team dedicated to operational excellence in a fast-paced, agile environment. This position plays a key role in ensuring server and baseline software performance and security within data centers. This position is on-site in Bethesda, MD.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot a custom Scientific Linux/Red Hat Linux-based software baseline.
  • Ensure operational health and performance of physical server infrastructure, including troubleshooting and upgrading hardware components.
  • Collaborate across engineering teams to support and maintain development, staging, and production environments.
  • Monitor server and system health, develop and apply proactive maintenance schedules and performance enhancements.
  • Document technical workflows and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with relevant security and operational standards.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours incident response and system support.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in server hardware maintenance, system administration, and operational troubleshooting
  • Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix system administration and automation of operational tasks
  • Extensive knowledge of physical server management and enterprise IT standards
  • Experience creating and executing maintenance schedules and system documentation
  • Strong understanding of large-scale system integration and hardware lifecycle support
  • Familiarity with scripting languages to automate routine tasks (e.g., Bash, Python)
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and collaboration skills
  • US citizenship and an active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance required

Desired Experience:

  • Experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure and AWS CloudFormation
  • Understanding of cloud application architecture in AWS or Azure environments
  • Familiarity with cloud monitoring and infrastructure automation tools
  • Knowledge of cross-domain solutions server TS, Secret and UNCLASS Fabrics.
  • Experience using JIRA, Confluence, and agile-based project tracking tools.

Pay Range: $49,996.80 - $290,004.00
