Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory LLC seeks a Linux Systems Administrator for the HDMA Classified Information Systems Section. You will design, implement, secure, and optimize Linux environments supporting highly classified programs, working with cross-functional teams and security personnel.

The role requires experience with RHEL/Ubuntu, scripting, and integration with Windows, plus ability to obtain or hold an interim TS clearance and DoD 8570/8140 certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher with relevant Linux experience.
• Experience administering Linux systems in secure environments.
• Proficiency with RHEL, Ubuntu or similar distributions.
• Experience installing, securing, patching and troubleshooting Linux servers/workstations.
• Knowledge of Linux user/group administration, permissions, logging and access controls.
• Shell scripting or Python experience.
• Interoperability between Linux and Windows systems.
• Strong written/verbal communications and teamwork.
• Active Interim Secret clearance with potential TS eligibility; DoD 8570/8140 certs or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, configure and optimize complex Linux environments for classified systems.
• Lead deployments, upgrades, migrations, patching, and infrastructure improvements.
• Ensure system-hardening, security controls, vulnerability management per STIG, RMF, NIST.
• Install and maintain GitLab, MATLAB, and related applications in secure environments.
• Integrate Linux and Windows platforms for hybrid workflows.
• Develop automation to improve efficiency and reliability.
