Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to design, implement, and secure Linux environments supporting classified, development, and mission-critical systems. You will collaborate with section staff and program managers to deliver robust, scalable solutions in secure environments.

Ideal candidates have a strong background in Red Hat and Ubuntu, scripting (Python/shell), and experience enabling Linux-Windows interoperability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in CS/IT/Engineering or related field with relevant Linux experience.
• Experience administering Linux systems in secure, lab, or complex environments.
• Proficient with RHEL, Ubuntu or similar enterprise Linux distros.
• Experience installing, configuring, securing, patching, and troubleshooting Linux servers/workstations.
• Understand Linux user/group management, permissions, logging, and access controls.
• Experience with shell scripting, Python or other scripting languages.
• Interoperability between Linux and Windows systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, configure, and optimize complex Linux environments for lab, dev, and mission-critical systems.
• Evaluate requirements and develop Linux solutions balancing security, performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Lead deployments, upgrades, migrations, patching, and modernization across platforms.
