Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a seasoned Linux Systems Administrator to own the design, deployment, and maintenance of on-premise classified Linux infrastructure. You will drive security enhancements, perform vulnerability assessments, and provide expert support within a trusted, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include patch management, system monitoring, and collaboration with ISSO/ISSM to balance security with functionality.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience.
In-depth knowledge of Linux operating systems (Red Hat, CentOS or similar) and administration.
5+ years Linux systems administration experience.
RHCSA or equivalent certification.
Experience administering/maintaining classified computer networks.
Knowledge of Linux firewalls, SELinux, and SSO with AD integration.
Strong problem-solving and teamwork abilities.
DoD 8570 certification (Security+ or CISSP) or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

Manage, configure, and maintain classified Linux-based systems including OS installation, patching, and health checks.
Implement security measures in line with compliance policies; conduct audits and vulnerability assessments.
Collaborate with ISSO/ISSM to maintain network security posture and address vulnerabilities.
Provide end-user support in a classified environment and perform root-cause analysis on issues.
Respond to incidents promptly and coordinate with IT peers to minimize downtime.
Develop and maintain SOPs, configurations, and troubleshooting guides.
