ManTech seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Linux System Administrator to join our team. This is a remote position.
The DISS program provides support to our clients in delivering accurate and timely medical services via various systems. We support Linux-based computer systems that process military medical records, serving medical providers and patients. This role primarily focuses on operations and sustainment for the live Production environment, with responsibilities extending to lower environments and DevOps tasks such as building infrastructure and migrating systems to containerized environments.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with applications/servers in a complex, dynamic environment, often independently, identifying root causes and implementing permanent solutions after presenting options and gaining approval.
- Perform system setup, configuration, and routine maintenance on various Linux distributions, including user management, software installation, and system updates; manage monitoring tools and respond to alerts promptly.
- Develop and maintain shell scripts and automation tools to streamline system management tasks.
- Implement and maintain security best practices, including firewalls, access controls, and vulnerability assessments, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Configure and troubleshoot network services such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and routing; collaborate with network engineers to optimize network performance.
- Manage software packages and dependencies, ensuring systems are up-to-date and secure.
- Optimize system performance through kernel tuning, resource monitoring, and load balancing; maintain documentation and establish backup and disaster recovery procedures, testing and refining them regularly.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator managing various Linux distributions; a bachelor’s degree can substitute 4 years of experience.
- Strong understanding of Linux security practices and system hardening; familiarity with network protocols, routing, and firewalls.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex issues independently, evaluate solutions, and implement fixes with stakeholder buy-in.
- Ability to handle high-stress, high-visibility projects without guidance.
- Must possess a CompTIA Security+ certification and a technical certification (Linux, AWS, Kubernetes, or similar) before starting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in application troubleshooting or IT sustainment roles.
- Experience supporting government contracts or live production environments.
- Familiarity with Bash scripting, Ansible, JBoss, SQL, Kubernetes/Rancher, AppDynamics, GitLab CI/CD, Java, or Python.
- Experience with Kubernetes and Rancher.
Clearance Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen with an active Secret clearance.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain stationary for over 50% of the time.
- Frequent use of computers and office machinery.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with co-workers, management, and clients, including delivering presentations.
- Occasional movement within the office to access files and equipment.
