Job summary

Hellbender Inc. in Pittsburgh seeks a Linux Device Driver Engineer to design and maintain kernel drivers for camera and sensor hardware. The role focuses on Linux, C, C++, and Rust, with Yocto/BitBake for embedded builds and hardware bring-up tasks.

You will collaborate with hardware teams, debug at a low level, and help bring up new platforms across CAN, UART, I2C, SPI, and MIPI CSI interfaces. This position emphasizes hands-on development in a Linux environment.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of hands-on Linux kernel or device driver experience preferred; new graduates with relevant coursework or project experience are invited to apply.
• Strong working experience with C; experience with C++ and/or Rust a plus.
• Familiarity with device tree, U-Boot, or other bootloader/BSP concepts preferred.
• Experience with Yocto/BitBake or similar embedded Linux build systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, write, and maintain Linux kernel drivers and low-level software for camera and sensor hardware.
• Develop and debug software that communicates with devices over interfaces including CAN, UART, I2C, SPI, MIPI CSI, and others.
• Bring up new hardware platforms, including BSP development, device tree configuration, and kernel/bootloader integration.
• Build and maintain embedded Linux distributions using Yocto and BitBake, including custom layers and recipes.
• Collaborate with hardware engineering teams to define driver requirements and troubleshoot hardware/software interaction issues.
• Demonstrate proficiency in low-level debugging, performance analysis, and systems-level software engineering.
