Job summary

Request Technology, LLC in Chicago, IL seeks a Linux Administration Contractor to manage Linux servers (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) on-prem and AWS, implement automation with Ansible, and strengthen security through patching and hardening.

You will work in a hybrid setup (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) on a long-term contract, provide 24/7 on-call support, and collaborate with incident response, DevOps, and security teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Linux system administration (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) experience.
• Strong deployment and configuration management knowledge.
• Experience with patch management and upgrades.
• Hands-on with AWS and automation tools like Ansible.
• Vulnerability assessment and remediation experience.
• Familiarity with virtualization and monitoring tools.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux servers in physical, virtual, and AWS environments.
• Automate server provisioning using Ansible and other tools.
• Plan and execute system patches and upgrades for security and performance.
• Design and implement AWS infrastructure with best practices and cost optimization.
• Manage AWS services: EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, etc.
• Identify and remediate vulnerabilities in Linux systems and apps.
• Review vulnerability scans and implement remediation strategies.
• Manage content views and lifecycle in Red Hat Satellite.
• Create and manage JIRA/ServiceNow tickets and change processes.
• Participate in on-call rotation for emergency support.

Location: Chicago, IL

A financial firm needs a Linux Administration Contractor. This contractor will focus on Linux administration, automation, Ansible, AWS Cloud, vulnerability management tools, etc. The Linux administrator will have to be flexible for 24/7 operational support, on-call for nights/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux servers in both physical, virtual, and AWS cloud environments
• Implement and manage automated server provisioning using Ansible and other automation tools
• Plan and execute regular system patches and upgrades to ensure security and performance
• Design and implement AWS infrastructure following best practices and cost optimization strategies
• Manage AWS services including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, and other relevant services
• Identify, assess, and remediate vulnerabilities within Linux systems and applications
• Conduct regular review of vulnerability scans reports and implement remediation strategies
• Knowledge of creating content views and managing lifecycle environments in Red Hat Satellite
• Create and manage JIRA, ServiceNow tickets, workflows, and change management processes
• Participate in on-call rotation for emergency support

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Linux system administration (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu)
• Strong knowledge of server deployment and configuration management
• Expertise in patch management and system upgrade procedures
• Proven troubleshooting skills for Linux systems and applications
• Experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure management
• Experience with Ansible or similar automation/configuration management tools
• Knowledge of vulnerability assessment tools and remediation techniques
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, etc.)
• Scripting skills in Bash/ksh, Python, or other relevant languages
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Familiarity with monitoring solutions (Logic Monitor, Splunk, Qualys, CrowdStrike, CloudWatch, Nagios, Prometheus, etc.)
