Job description

This individual plays an important role as they are a part of a team responsible for constructing and maintaining a safe and reliable electric grid for VEC members.

The individual in this role will apply their utility line work experience to build and maintain overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems. They are responsible for safely restoring electric service and supporting VEC's short and long-term goals for reliability and efficiency. In order to provide excellent service to our members, employees must live within 45 minutes to the Grand Isle district or be willing to relocate within a year.

As a member-owned electric cooperative, VEC works directly for those it serves and is not designed to make a profit. It believes in providing safe, affordable, and reliable energy services to its members and adapting to changes that will shape our energy future. We are an organization that is intentional about building a culture of people inspired to do their best work every day. We offer generous benefits including an award-winning wellness program and plenty of paid leave time.

Candidates should have examples where they've demonstrated good fiscal responsibility and commitment to customer service through their resource planning, time management, and organizational skills. Safety, not only for themselves but for others, should be at the heart of their work. They should be comfortable with using various technologies to perform daily work.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must have successfully completed an approved Lineworker training program. We will also consider an apprentice Lineworker. Must possess knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License. Knowledge of VEC's system in the Newport service area preferred.

Because this position requires a CDL, there is a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, VEC requires a criminal background check.
