Job summary

Evergy in Topeka, KS is seeking a Journeyman Lineman in the Topeka Operations Center. The role requires 3+ years of lineman experience or prior First Class Lineman status, with a valid Class A CDL and strong safety discipline.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Lineman: 3+ years in trade or previously classified as First Class Lineman.
• Valid Class A CDL is required.
• Safety-focused with strong physical abilities and competencies for line work.

Responsibilities

• Open switches or attach grounding devices to remove hazards and facilitate repairs.
• Install distribution and transmission systems including conduits, cables, wires, transformers, breakers, and switches.
• Maintain and repair electrical systems on distribution and transmission lines.
• Identify faulty equipment using wiring diagrams and testing instruments.
• Inspect power lines and auxiliary equipment to locate problems.
• String conductors and cables between poles, towers, or buildings; set lines in place and tension.
• Replace or straighten damaged poles; test voltage for correct connections.
• Install meters and connect service drops between power lines and customers.
• Lay underground cable in trenches or through conduit.
• Analyze sites to determine safest and most efficient work methods.
