Job summary

The City of Chicago's Department of Transportation (CDOT) seeks skilled Linemen for the Division of Electrical Operations. Under supervision, you install and maintain aerial and underground electrical lines, perform tests, splices, and conduit work to support city infrastructure.

Starting salary aligns with the union contract at $67.18 per hour. Open to the public and city employees; appointments follow seniority or lottery.

Qualifications

Successful completion of a US Department of Labor-registered Lineman apprenticeship training program and journeyman status.
Alternative: Electrician/Wireman journeyman with two years electrical construction experience.
Alternative: Lineman apprenticeship + two years journey-level Lineman experience.
Six years journey-level Lineman experience.

Responsibilities

Installs and connects electrical lines, fiber optics, and cables to power sources.
Splices and terminates copper and fiber optic cables.
Cuts, bends, and fits conduit into trenches and installs new electrical wire.
Relocates existing electrical installations and fixtures for street construction.
Performs voltage tests to determine wire type and function.
