Job summary

The City of Siloam Springs is seeking an apprentice lineman/groundman to learn all aspects of maintenance, construction and operation on electrical power lines and transformers. Training will cover pole climbing, transformer configurations, and line construction under supervision.

The role requires a valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a Class A or B CDL. The position is a daytime, union-style schedule with on-call standby for outages and related emergencies.

Qualifications

• Must live within a ten-mile radius of the City limits within a year of hire date.
• High school diploma or GED; a minimum of one year as a Groundman is necessary before a person qualifies for this position.

Responsibilities

• Learns skills such as pole climbing, transformer bank configurations, and general line maintenance and construction.
• Assists Lineman in changing out service lines, re-fusing transformers and changing taps on transformers.
• Operates line trucks for Journeyman Lineman in the repair, maintenance, and construction of electrical line and transformers.
• Installs, removes, or maintains streetlight fixtures, poles, and control equipment.
• Strings wire of various gauges on poles and structures.
• Installs underground cable, splices, and connectors, along with other material; in the maintenance, construction, repair, and operational tasks.
