Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Troubleman A to service and troubleshoot electrical facilities in the Shreveport area. The role requires investigation of trouble calls, coordination with crews, and safe restoration of service on both overhead and underground systems.

You will work with hot line equipment, read meters, disconnect and connect meters, operate line switches, and communicate with customers while ensuring adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 2 years of work experience as Lineman A or equivalent as determined by the Company.
• Valid Class A CDL is required.
• Heavy physical demand as part of the job.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and/or conduct complex circuit and substation switching and restoration of service following trouble calls.
• Investigate trouble calls; patrol and inspect lines; locate, clear and repair faults on lines and equipment.
• Refuse line and transformer cutouts; repair and adjust street light control equipment; install and remove transformers, meters and services.
• Analyze and take corrective action with respect to trouble calls on transmission and distribution circuits and equipment.
• Use instruments such as voltmeters, ammeters, and magnimeters and record readings.
• Interface with emergency forces (fire, police) to accomplish safe restoration of trouble calls.
• Work with hot line equipment on energized circuits for emergencies or routine maintenance.
• Communicate with customers and plan solutions to their needs and to Company resolution of trouble calls.
