Overview

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The Lineman 2 (B-Lineman) will be expected to safely perform all associated tasks related to the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground facilities (excluding vaults, manholes, and hot compounds) under the direct supervision of the lead journeyman lineman or crew foreman. They must be capable of troubleshooting and repairing all distribution circuits and equipment safely. Additionally, they should be able to prepare all necessary paperwork and be open to adopting new technology in the utility field.

Responsibilities include:

1. Perform construction, maintenance, and repairs on electrical overhead and underground distribution systems under supervision from the Lead Journeyman Lineman or Line Crew Foreman.
2. Operate, inspect, and maintain aerial devices, digger/derricks, excavation equipment, and other related equipment.
3. Climb poles with climbing hooks and belts, troubleshoot distribution systems, set transformers, and pull underground conductors.
4. Complete reports, documentation, and mapping information.
5. Assist lead lineman and foreman in training lower-level linemen and perform other duties as assigned.

Experience

1. 2-4 years of verifiable field experience.

Education

1. High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 2 years of verifiable field experience. Completion of a lineman college with an apprentice certificate is a plus but not mandatory.
2. Class A CDL is required.

Abilities

1. Lift at least 100 pounds at once and 60 pounds for extended periods.
2. Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
3. Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing and maintaining balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, and ladders.
4. Perform physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, squatting, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead regularly.
5. Maintain good vision (corrected vision acceptable), see in color, and hear and communicate effectively in English.
6. Use standard ladders within weight limits while carrying tools.
7. Recognize when something is wrong or likely to go wrong (problem recognition).
8. Apply general rules to specific problems to produce logical answers.
9. Combine information to form general rules or conclusions, including identifying relationships among unrelated events.

11. Listen to and understand spoken information and ideas.
