Job summary

American Electric Power in Michigan is seeking a Line Mechanic A-B for critical distribution work. You will assemble, install, maintain and inspect overhead and underground facilities, wiring and equipment to ensure safe, reliable power delivery.

The role requires the ability to work with energized lines at various voltages, completion of apprentice lineman training (B-200), and a valid Class A CDL. Overtime and on-call duties are expected, with strong safety standards and teamwork emphasized.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience with formal training.
• Line Mechanic-A/B prerequisites include apprentice lineman training and B-200 certification where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers and structures.
• After C-100 completion, perform work on energized conductors up to 260 volts under general supervision; assist with work on 600 volt systems under supervision.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cables, splice and terminate URD cables, troubleshoot energized lines.
• Build equipment mountings and overhead transformer installations; perform switching and tagging procedures.
• Direct the work of assigned helpers and complete Monthly Apprentice Cards for supervisor review.
