Job summary

American Electric Power in Ohio seeks a Line Mechanic C to install, maintain, and inspect overhead and underground electrical facilities. Successful candidates typically progress through C-100 to C-400 levels and may operate energized equipment under supervision.

This evergreen requisition builds a talent pipeline for current and future vacancies within our service area; valid Class A CDL is required and relocation within 45 miles of listed service centers may be expected.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience defined as: successful completion of a one-year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience, OR an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience.
• Shall have performed the duties of and have all the qualifications of Line Mechanic D or the equivalent and shall qualify through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Company.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead, and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures, structures and other associated equipment under immediate or general supervision as skill level dictates.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cable, splice and terminate URD cable, and troubleshoot, repair and energize URD cable and equipment under immediate supervision as skill level dictates.
• Use volt meters, amp meters, ground meggers, continuity testers and other electrical test equipment associated with line work on voltages up to 600 volts.
