Job summary

NY STATE ELECTRIC & GAS CORP is seeking a NYSEG Line Mechanic 1/C, 2/C Acceptable at NYSEG, NY - Geneva. The role offers an hourly rate of $45.78–$62.68 and requires several years of lineman experience and strong knowledge of electrical systems.

The incumbent will perform complex construction and maintenance work on energized conductors, install transformers, meters, and other services, and may supervise other Linemen or Groundmen. A valid operator’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Three years’ experience as Second-Class Lineman or equivalent, demonstrated by an appropriate test.
• Routine operations of moderate complexity and variety based on detailed instructions (about two years of high school).
• Good working knowledge of company line practices and standards.
• Familiar with distribution and transmission line layouts in assigned area.
• Working knowledge of electrical fundamentals for transmission/distribution construction and maintenance.
• Familiar with company Safety Rules, resuscitation methods, and able to render First Aid.
• Able to qualify for automobile operator’s license.

Responsibilities

• Under directive supervision, does the most complicated construction and maintenance work on energized conductors, structures and equipment.
• Makes polyphase transformer installations; performs phasing and phase rotation on polyphase circuits; conducts distribution/transmission switching and sectionalizing when required; traces and clears grounds and opens on series circuits.
• May install instrument transformers; install, remove, connect or disconnect electric and/or gas meters and services.
• Performs other related and less skilled work as directed, including operation of transportation equipment.
• Directs work of other Linemen or Groundmen assisting him (refer to memo on supervisory responsibility).
