Job description

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Line Foreman to assist in the organizing and directing of the distribution activities of our utility in Behtel, Alaska. The Line Foreman plays a pivotal role in our electrical distribution system, guaranteeing its reliability, safety, and efficiency. This position demands exceptional technical proficiency and a dedication to safety and delivering exceptional service to our members.

Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) stands as a unique electric generation and distribution cooperative, serving 59 communities across Alaska. Our operation spans 46 small, isolated grids relying on a mix of diesel, wind, and solar generation to power 11,513 meters and maintain 515 miles of distribution line.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of line workers, providing guidance, training and support to ensure high performance and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work assignments and verify material and equipment availability.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Communicate with cooperative members to troubleshoot and devise solutions for electrical service problems.
  • Cultivate a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement; assist in safety training and field instructions.
  • Instruct workers on proper use of equipment and materials, ensure safe handling of cables, and adhere to OSHA regulations.
  • Report findings from inspections to the superintendent and/or manager and participate in follow-up of corrective actions, investigations of incidents, accidents and near misses.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in electrical power distribution and 3 years' experience in rural Alaska, preferred.
  • Journeyman Power Lineman with the State of Alaska.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of a lineman apprenticeship program.
  • Valid driver's license.

Highlights include starting pay expected between $61.01 and $72.61 per hour. 401K Plan with Employer Match and Retirement Pension Plan (Defined Benefit, Employer paid pension).
