Education and Work Experience:

Education: High school diploma or GED.

Two (2) years of kitchen experience is required -and- must have a Food Handlers Permit prior to the start of work.

Scope of Position:

Will assist the Kitchen Manager in the preparation of meals and maintain high standards of kitchen and pantry cleanliness at all times. Will act as the primary food delivery service and driver for the weekend to the site/s. Maintain an organized and sanitary environment. Implement and adhere to food codes and regulations to provide safe food and beverages to clients. Will pick up food donations as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Basic Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook – preferred. Microsoft PowerPoint, helpful.
  • Must be courteous and respectful to teammates and donors.
  • Must be congenial and able to work with difficult individuals.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Driver’s License is required; and fewer than two (2) traffic infractions in the last year.
  • Food Handlers Permit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understands and practices safe food handling procedures.
  • Follows proper cleaning techniques, storing chemicals properly, and labeling product appropriately.
  • Practices safety procedures, utilizes tools, equipment and protective equipment as needed; and informs Supervisor of any/all safety hazards, equipment failures, and needed repairs.
  • Reports to work on time for posted weekend schedule and maintains accurate time records.
  • Maintains a professional appearance, demeanor, and attitude; follows all dress code standards.
  • Interact with staff in a professional manner, assisting other departments with necessary information.
  • Prepare hot meals for up to a potential 110 people or prorated amount required.
  • Load and deliver meals to project site.
  • Apply food safety standards to project site food storage and prepare To Go meals
  • Pick up food donations on assigned days and deliver items to kitchen or project site.
  • Attends staff/department meetings as requested.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Operate telephone. Operate a desktop or laptop computer.
  • Lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Work in kitchen with hot and sharp equipment without risk to personal safety.
  • Works on many projects at once in a semi-open office environment with interruptions and noises from voices, telephones, printers.

Miscellaneous:

The Salvation Army does have a dress code that includes professional dress which is appropriate to the work environment and reflects well on the organization.
